I’ll be honest — I’ve been in a funk.
Not a crisis. Not a breakdown. But just… off.
I was doing all the “right” things — praying, journaling, showing up for my community — but something still felt stuck.
Like my spirit was foggy.
Like I was moving through the motions but missing the moment.
And like I shared on last week’s call, God has been whispering something that’s been getting with me:
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth—do you not perceive it?”
— Isaiah 43:19
I’ve read that scripture a hundred times. But lately?
It’s been reading me.
Because the truth is… I wasn’t perceiving it.
I was tired. Fogged up by the weight of life-ing.
Still waiting for some dramatic sign that things were shifting — when God was already moving. Already rebuilding. Already planting something new beneath the surface.
What if the new thing is already happening…
but your soul is too loud to hear it?
That’s what He showed me.
I kept asking, “What are you doing, Lord?”
And He gently responded:
“The better question is — can you perceive it?”
He wasn’t saying it to shame me.
He was saying it to wake me up.
Let’s talk about spiritual perception.
Discernment isn’t always goosebumps and clear signs.
It’s often quiet. Subtle. Internal.
It’s in the moments when your soul gets still enough to sense something is shifting — even before anything moves externally.
And last week, during our prayer call, I felt it.
No study guide. No “big word.”
Just presence. Stillness. Revelation.
“I’m not just doing a new thing around you —
I’m doing a new thing in you.
But you’ve got to clear space to see it.”
Sis, if you’ve been in a funk…
It’s not a failure.
It’s an invitation.
To slow down.
To lean in.
To stop asking for confirmation — and start practicing perception.
That fog you’re feeling?
It’s not weakness.
It’s a signal.
Your spirit is craving clarity — and not from the world, but from God.
Here’s what I’m learning (and unlearning):
Your funk doesn’t mean you’re far from God.
Sometimes He’s closer than ever — you’re just clouded. The shift isn’t always external.
The “new thing” might be in your mindset, your strategy, your posture.Spiritual maturity is learning to sense movement in stillness.
To hear the whisper… instead of waiting for the shout.
5 Spiritual Steps to Exit the Funk
1. Tell God the truth — no filter.
“God, I don’t feel inspired. I feel numb. I feel like I’m going through the motions.”
Funk thrives in silence. Break the agreement with stagnation by getting honest.
2. Shift from performing to participating.
Instead of trying to perform faith, participate in presence.
That might look like:
Sitting quietly for 5 minutes with worship on
Reading one verse and journaling one sentence
Drinking tea while you cry and whisper, “I’m still yours.”
Let the pressure to be “on” fall off.
3. Speak to the funk — out loud.
“This heaviness is not my portion.”
“God gave me clarity, not confusion.”
“My spirit is anchored even when my feelings are fragile.”
Sometimes, silence is what keeps us bound. Speak truth until it breaks.
4. Find one anchor action.
What’s one small thing that reminds you you’re still aligned?
Clean one corner of your home
Create some content
Reading one chapter of Fervent (JOIN THE BOOK CLUB)
Do one task you have been putting off
Stillness is holy.
But stagnation is a lie.
5. Let grace do its job.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9
Your funk doesn’t disqualify your favor.
It’s the very place where grace shows off.
So here’s my invitation:
If this post stirred something in you —
go back and read the recap from last week’s prayer call:
In closing… Let’s pray this together.
Father
,
I don’t feel like myself.
I don’t feel as close. As motivated. As “on fire.”
But I’m still yours.
Pull me close again.
Clear the fog.
Restore my joy.
Reignite what felt dull.
I receive your grace.
I’m not behind — I’m becoming.
Amen.
Let’s go deeper — in community, in strategy, and in power.
With fire + focus,
Erika 🤍
